My Collection

My collection of unused-by-me insulated coffee tumblers/mugs is still increasing. I haven't made any effort to increase my collection numbers -- the individuals more or less fall into my hands. A promotional gift from Purina, a George Fox graduation acquirement, a white elephant gift -- and my latest, a shiny dark red Fort Dodge cup with matching coaster. They're sort of fun to have, usually aesthetically pleasing, have neat little slidy tops. (I haven't progressed beyond the stage where Micro Machines were neater the more doors, etc moved on them.) Very nice, very nice.

The only problem is, they have served me no purpose aside from the few fractions of calories I expended to pick them up. I don't drink coffee, not even socially -- and I'm still learning to endure herbal tea.

But I feel like I should put them to work, show off my collection (ha), be like everyone else. I always feel jealous at the attention garnered by knocking over a coffee mug and spilling its contents on some lecture notes. I'm not sure I can bear it much longer. JK.

But seriously, perhaps I should take on green tea. It decreases the chance of getting cancer, decreases bad cholesterol, improves the immune system. It contains less caffeine than coffee -- would that make it less addicting? On top of that, I could use my lovely collection. But - sigh - I probably wouldn't bother to brew the stuff.

Water, Claire.

Use them for "drinking cups."

Thanks for the advice, Mark. That sounds like the wisest, most feasible plan. :)
But then, maybe I should just use my green Nalgene bottle and sequester my "collection" in a lonely box in the depths of my room. One hundred years hence my great-great nephew will pull them out of storage and sell them for pittance on eBay -- relics from the estate of an obscure coffee-abstinate Mennonite veterinarian. Sounds like a double oxymoron.

*grin* I have the same problem, since I don't drink coffee either, and I feel tea is to be drank at one's leisure, so having it in a travel thermos seems wrong (and I'm lazy anyway). I gave the most recent thermos to a Mr. Harvey Dodge. We figured he'd like it. As for the Purina one...I dunno! Pawn it off on someone? However, if you want to get into the tea habit, come over some time and I'll introduce you to some of the best green tea there is (or ceylon, or Earl Grey, or jasmine, or oolong, or wimpy herbal tea, or ginseng, or chai - well, you get the idea) They are very pretty though, aren't they? :)

Whoa, Anna, I didn't know you were such a tea expert! -- but then, I seem to recall being at your place and turning down the offer of tea. I am more mature now (???) and may face such an offer with more agreability than previously. Either way, I need to come see your place.

Which may be better than relics from the estate of an obtuse coffee-obstinate Mennonite vegeterian.

Then again, maybe not.

Anyway, if you bury them in your room somewhere, make a map so you can find them after 44. I think that's the age when, after a theretofore life-long dislike for coffee, I started liking it.

So you may yet occupy them for their intended use.

Mark, you're supposed to be an encourager of the brethren... but then, speaking the truth is also important so I'll let it pass. :)
