Sheepy Afternoon

I ought to be less of a blogger slacker but at present my brain is sore and my grammar has been deteriorating significantly of late.

Today I was talking about a nice dog, and said it had a good "appetite" when I really meant "attitude." I don't know what you call that mix-up, but the words are similar to me because they start and end with the same letters and both have a double repeat consonant - vowel - consonant - vowel - consonant form.

I recently returned from an out-call to see a sheep that would not get up. The sheep was very thin, but it was difficult to tell without touching it. That is the case with sheep/llamas more than other animals -- people don't notice how emaciated they look until they're sheared. Once sheared, the animal may look like a concentration camp victim. But it doesn't mean that the owner is heartless or neglectful -- just uneducated. Education is a very important part of veterinary medicine.

It is unclear whether this sheep has another underlying problem. I tubed it with electrolytes, gave it vitamin shots, dewormed it (which I actually don't think was the main problem, unlike most emaciated sheep stories) and strongly encouraged its owner to feed it more. It will be interesting to see how Miss Sheep does. We may do bloodwork on Monday.

The owners were very nice and friendly. I ended up hanging out for almost 3 hours, just because I had nothing else to do, the people were nice & good to talk to, and it was interesting to see what the sheep would do. I don't get that luxury during the day -- only on after hours calls.

The wife even gave me roses when I left.

I should go to the store to get more interesting food than I have at home (tortillas, cheese, bran cereal w/o raisins, and other things more interesting that I just don't feel like eating), but I am worried that I will get called on an emergency as I am ready to go through the check-out line.
